Compatibility Note

The SK Hynix PE8110 Series U.3 NVMe SSD is compatible with Dell PowerEdge servers starting from 14th Generation and newer, provided the system is equipped with an NVMe-enabled backplane. Dell’s universal 2.5" SFF design allows use across multiple generations when properly configured.

Important Deployment Notes

  • Drive Tray Requirement:
Must be installed in a Dell 2.5" SFF hot-swap tray (commonly 0DXD9H / DXD9H or equivalent SFF carrier). The original HPE carrier is not compatible.
  • Backplane Requirement:
NVMe-capable Dell PowerEdge backplane is required. SAS/SATA-only backplanes will not detect this drive.
  • Interface Compatibility:
U.3 is backward compatible with U.2, but full functionality depends on NVMe wiring and system configuration.
  • Performance Scaling:
    • 16G–17G: Full PCIe Gen4 performance
    • 15G: Full PCIe Gen4 performance
    • 14G: Limited to PCIe Gen3 speeds (~3,500 MB/s max)
  • Management Behavior:
Dell iDRAC may report the drive as “non-Dell certified” or “unknown vendor,” but functionality is typically unaffected if NVMe requirements are met.

Summary

Enterprise-grade 7.68TB NVMe U.3 SSD optimized for read-intensive workloads, fully compatible with Dell PowerEdge 14G–17G servers when equipped with NVMe backplanes and proper SFF drive trays, with performance scaling by generation.
