Compatibility Note

The SK Hynix PE8110 Series U.3 NVMe SSD is compatible with Cisco UCS C-Series rack servers that support NVMe U.2/U.3 storage. Full operation requires an NVMe-enabled backplane and a Cisco-compatible 2.5" SFF drive tray, since standard carriers from other vendors are not supported.

Important Deployment Notes

  • Drive Tray Requirement:
    Must be installed in a Cisco 2.5" SFF drive tray compatible with the UCS chassis generation.
  • Backplane Requirement:
    NVMe-enabled Cisco UCS backplane is required. SAS/SATA-only backplanes will not detect this drive.
  • Interface Compatibility:
    U.3 is backward compatible with U.2, but full NVMe functionality depends on Cisco backplane and riser configuration.
  • Performance Scaling:
    • M7/M8: Full PCIe Gen4 performance
    • M6: Full PCIe Gen4 performance
    • M5: Limited to PCIe Gen3 speeds (~3.5 GB/s max)
  • Management Behavior:
    Cisco Intersight or CIMC may flag the drive as “non-Cisco” or “unsupported,” but it typically operates normally when NVMe is properly configured.
